How To Choose A Tennis Net: Need To Know Facts

If your court is heavily utilized with long playing season, you need a net that will last and look good continuously. Look for nets made of thicker cords, braided (instead of twisted) and double mesh at the top.

Braided nets are better than twisted because they're stronger and absorb more energy, so when a ball hits the net it drops closer to the net instead of rebounding off it.

Polyethylene makes a good net material because it is resistant to fading from UV radiation and weathers well.

Side Dowels are usually 39" long and help hold the net taut. Look for stronger dowels made of fiberglass or hard woods.

Headbands are usually vinyl or polyester duck, often with double layers and four rows of lock stitching to hold the layers together. Polyster duck headbands are preferred on hard courts because the duck material absorbs the ball's energy and doesn't speed up the ball. Although, balls tend to skid off vinyl material, vinyl headband is common on soft courts because they're easier to clean and more dirt resistant.
